The Client: Montrose Port Authority hold the ambition to become the first Net-Zero Port in the UK, working towards UK Net-Zero targets and complying with clean air policies around Ports. As an existing utility client, they approached the team at Here’s The Plan for guidance towards a more sustainable future.
The Challenge: Many organisations do not know where to begin with Net-Zero planning – how to measure, what changes to make, when to implement, and who to trust. Here’s The Plan worked with Montrose Port Authority to deliver a bespoke Triple A Plan, detailing Accountability, Awareness, and Achievement on their sustainability journey. The Triple A Plan is designed to provoke questions about current operations and inspire action to ensure all future business decisions are made with environmental responsibility in mind.
The Solution: Following fact-finding meetings to understand their needs, Here’s The Plan were able to design a Triple A Plan that was just right for Montrose Port Authority in their quest to become the first Net-Zero Port in the UK. The Plan looks at a wide range of areas particular to the client’s goals, budgets, and desired timeframes, considering how to improve human behaviours, energy efficiency measures, and potential on-site generation options. We held coaching sessions with Montrose Port Authority’s Project Lead, considering ways to reduce staff waste and emissions, promote sustainable practices, and how to take all colleagues with them on their Net-Zero journey: for any business starting out, it is critical to have buy-in from the whole team.
Here's The Plan agreed time-bound action points with Montrose Port Authority to arrange site surveys into the feasibility of installing LED Lighting throughout their site, and for electric vehicle charging points in their main car park by the end of 2021, as well as supporting an already-underway solar PV project. All options were considered viable and beneficial to Montrose Port Authority, and installation is currently being planned in-line with their time and budget requirements. Additionally, there are plans for Montrose Port Authority to move onto ‘green energy’ contracts arranged by Here’s The Plan at the time of their next renewal, meaning they will only source renewable energy from the Grid.
As a Port looking to stay ahead of the curve, Montrose Port Authority also requested a Streamlined Energy and Carbon Report covering their Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions to be produced by Here’s The Plan to sit alongside their financial reports.
The Results: All aspects of Montrose Port Authority’s Triple A Plan are currently in motion, with LED lighting and electric vehicle charging points installation agreed pending a final survey, and the green energy market currently being tracked to determine the best time for them to renew in advance of their current contract expiring. Montrose Port Authority are also working towards other targets within their Triple A Plan, such as establishing a Green Team, and reducing waste on-site.
The Testimonial: Here’s The Plan have provided valued energy consultancy at the Port for many years. In recent years, their service has gone far beyond brokering our energy contracts through green initiatives including providing us with a comprehensive Triple A plan, SECR and further carbon reduction support such as EV-charger consultancy. As an organisation with an ambition to be ahead of the curve to reaching net-zero emissions, Here’s The Plan’s support has been invaluable in helping us start as we mean to go on and reach these goals. Their team of professionals are a pleasure to deal with and always take their time to explain technical concepts in an intuitive manner to ensure they tailor their approach to our organisation's requirements. We thoroughly recommend Here’s the Plan to any organisation seeking a bespoke service that goes above and beyond.
