The Challenge: Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce is part of the British & Scottish Chambers network, working with businesses of all sizes across a number of industries. Having launched Circular Tayside with the aim of helping local organisations become more circular, and as current green energy clients of ours, Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce approached Here’s The Plan to calculate their Scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions through our SECR Lite service.
The Solution: We held a meeting with Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce to establish their different Scope 1 & 2 emissions, and what intensity metrics they wanted to use to normalise their data. As a current client, we had all of their gas and electricity consumption available to calculate their emissions, and they were able to provide us with usage data for their electric car, which falls into Scope 2. Following our recommendation, they settled on intensity metrics to measure emissions per Chamber member and full-time member of staff equivalents.
Once we had all of their consumption data, as well as staff and member levels for the last three years, Here’s The Plan calculated Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce’s Scope 1 & 2 emissions using the UK Government’s conversion factors, and presented our findings in a report detailing trends in their data, and recommendations to continue moving towards Net-Zero effectively.
The Results: Here’s The Plan provided a comprehensive report quantifying and analysing emissions data through a series of tables and graphs explaining trends and giving reasons for them. Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce were able to reduce their emissions from 14004 kg CO2e in 2019 to 1704 kg CO2e in 2021 – a massive drop owing primarily to the use of green energy on-site. We met with some of the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce team to present the report in full, discussing our recommendations in greater detail and answering any questions they had.
Having their carbon emissions in a readable and understandable format has allowed Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce to promote their success in becoming a more sustainable organisation and compare their year-on-year progress, as well as gaining an understanding of how they stack-up against other businesses of a similar size.
The Testimonial: Working with Here’s The Plan has helped our business focus on our carbon footprint, and they gave expertise advise particularly with Scope 1 and 2 emissions. They did a lot of fact finding and were then able to analyse our data and give us a calculation on where we were and ways in which we could improve. We now have a clear business plan and are continuing with the things we were doing right and looking at the ways we can progress. Our current project is to look at replacing all our lights with LEDs to help keep us on track.
